In 1848, a large hoard of early gold and silver coins, was unearthed in Pocklington near to the Railway Station. The men who found the coins split the hoard between themselves, and tried to sell them in Southwark in London. The police were called, and they found themselves in a court case in London, in a dispute of ownership.
