Everinghams started in the town as a tailors, at the time of the Martinmas hirings, the clothes were hung outside the shop. |

| This photograph shows Pocklington’s first ever public bus. It was printed in the Pocklington Post on the 10th November 1988. The caption says ‘back in the 1920’s the local firm of Everingham brothers introduced a regular bus service between Pocklington and York and our picture shows driver Maurice Tinson proudly displaying his vehicle before setting off on the still bumpy route to York. |

| The bus terminus of Everinghams was in Railway Street which was outside the old Everingham family business of the tailors shop. The building of the right was the location of the clothing factory. |

An early bus, was a homemade body on AEC chassis seated about 40. The body makers were Manners joiners of Grape Lane/George Street. The story goes that the wood used was reclaimed after the fire at the FLAX mill building |

In the book "East Yorkshire Motor Services Limited" by Ian C. Gibbs, he states that Everinghams were taken over by East Yorkshire Motor Services in November 1953 for £29,000 and were operating a fleet of 31 vehicles, held a wide range of licences, and had garages at Red House, Railway Street and Flacks Yard, Pocklington. Of the 31 vehicles taken over, 15 were withdrawn before the end of the first year and those were all sold to a dealer in January 1954. At first, all three garages were used, but were replaced by a single depot in the town. Also inherited, was a small enquiry office and this was retained by the company.Further land was bought in Railway Street to enable a new garage to be built on the site. |
