Fire station fire in 1966
Thanks to Wendy and Andrew Hart for supplying these photographs.
Headlines from Pocklington Times and Daily Mirror:-

"FIRE STATION'S ABLAZE"

"Eight part time Firemen answered an emergency call yesterday and found flames sweeping through their own Fire Station! Passers-by were man-handling the two fire engines from the Station as they arrived but they could not stop part of the building burning to the ground. The part time Firemen had downed tools and rushed from work after a motorist stopped in the town and told the Police the Fire Station was on fire.
Flames poured through the windows of the Control Room, which held equipment for the 15 fire crew. Police tried to operate the emergency siren and the telephone operated emergency bells located in each Fireman's home but they would not work due to fire damage. Sub Post Master Mr Harvey who lives in the nearby village of Barmby Moor was stopped by Police and asked to give assistance. With the help of other passers-by they managed to remove the new £6,000 fire engine along with the towns 1926 Dennis open topped fire engine. They assisted the Firemen but the roof fell in and all other equipment was lost."
