This particular series of postcards makes Bishop Wilton look a bit bleak and unkempt. But it does show the bushes that existed by the side of the beck and by the side of the road on the other side of the main street (the latter being lilac bushes).

The bushes in the foreground are almost exactly on the site of two dwellings that existed in the late 1700s, one of which was a poor house.
